When the Southern Pacific Railroad completed its route through the California desert more than 100 years ago, an oasis of palm trees, natural waterfalls and hot mineral springs at the base of towering mountains became accessible to travelers. Thus began the tourism industry in Palm Springs–birthplace to today’s desert resort living in the Coachella Valley.
